First impressions count but don’t let fresh decorations and new carpets mask potential problems. Do you really know what you are letting yourself in for when buying your new dream home?
It may have problems you will not be aware of, but which a qualified member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is trained to look for and report on.
This is a common question, particularly when you may have already paid your mortgage lender for their surveyor to inspect the property. The fundamental difference is that they are doing a valuation to ensure that the funds they lend you are secure. It is not a comprehensive survey on the condition of the property and it is not primarily for your benefit. It is always advisable for you to have your own survey when buying a home so that you know precisely what you are buying.
